About Fresh Perspective Vacations
Once upon a time, Gretchen and Derek relocated from the prairie of South Dakota to the mountains of Tennessee and never looked back. From hiking to playing in the river, having the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee and North Carolina in their backyard spoiled them forever.
Next, they discovered the Gulf Coast, specifically the sleepy little southern town of Gulf Shores, and started making family memories there. The Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina came next, with hiking trails around Chimney Rock and the Hickory Nut Gorge and living the lake life at Lake Lure.

What are your check-in and check-out times?
Check-in time is 4 p.m. Our cleaning crew works hard to ensure an amazing stay for you, and they’re often working right up to check-in time. If you arrive early, please check out our Guidebook that’s emailed to you when you book and includes some fun things you can do if you arrive before 4. Occasionally we’ll be able to accomodate early check-in when the property has not been booked the night before, so please ask but know it may not be possible.
Check-out time is strictly 10 a.m. If we have guests arriving that day, our cleaners will need every minute to prepare for them, just as they prepared for your arrival. Should something unexpected come up, please contact us.
Do you allow pets?
Pets are not allowed at any of our properties. It’s not because we don’t love our furry friends, but because of a combination of HOA rules (Gulf Shores) and our own daughter’s allergies to many types of animal dander.
We comply with ADA requirements regarding Service Animals. A service animal is one which is trained to do specific work or perform a specific task for the benefit of an individual with a disability. Your service animal is welcome, but we do need to be notified in advance.
Pets that provide emotional support, well being, comfort or companionship are not recognized as service animals under ADA guidance.
House Rules for Service animals:
- As per ADA guidance, Service Animals may not be left alone in the property at any time. Your SA must be under your direct control at all times.
- Please do not allow your SA on the furniture in any of our homes.
- Please be aware of local risks to your SA such as wildlife and pests. All service animals who visit must be treated for fleas and ticks.
- Please be respectful of our neighbors and clean up after your service animal.
- Booking guest must accept responsibility for any and all damage to property or persons resulting from your Service Animal. Additional cleaning or damage repairs may result in forfeiture of damage deposit. Additional costs above the damage deposit amount will be the responsibility of the booking guest.
Are you child friendly?
As a family with four children, we sure are! It’s our pleasure to host families and give you the space to bond and enjoy special time together.
You may rent baby equipment through the BabyQuip links provided with individual property bookings if you desire.
What if I need to cancel?
Prior to booking, you’ll have a chance to review the complete booking policy and cancellation timeframes for 100% and 50% refunds.
That said…life can be unexpected! Changes in fortune, weather, family emergencies…. You just never know. We do not give refunds due to weather, natural disasters, or other unexpected changes in plans. We strongly recommend trip insurance to cover costs associated with trip cancellations, interruptions, emergency evacuations, medical emergencies, and more.
